Hi Everyone,

The next activity of BA-NQG is as below

Sarus Crane - Australian sub-species is now catalogued as a "bird to watch" in the new Action Plan for Australian Birds 2000 (Garnett & Crowley).  The recommended action is to "continue annual counts on the Atherton Tableland".

You can be part of this important annual event when Birds Australia North Qld Group holds the fourth Sarus Crane & Brolga count on Saturday October 7th.

DETAILS:  Meet at 3.30 pm on Saturday Oct 7th,  at Hasties Swamp National Park near Atherton.   Teams then go out to count cranes (and ID Sarus vs. Brolgas) as they come in to roost at various sites - an ID challenge as dusk falls!

Bring binos, scope, sensible shoes and clothing.   There will be a BYO everything buffet dinner and "grand tally"  afterwards.
MORE Info from Elinor Scambler

Hope to see you there
Elinor
