Hi everyone,

I convinced my dad to take me out to Dee Why this afternoon to look for the House Crow. We ended up heading to Long Reef afterwards and I go myself 4 new birds.

We arrived at James Meehan Reserve at 11:30am. We looked around the reserve, but couldn't find any sign of the House Crow. We walked along the bicycle path but decided that no bird in their right mind would be out in this weather so we headed back. When we got back to the reserve I went over to have a look around the playground and eventually heard the call of the House Crow (slightly higher than Little Raven) and it flew into a Banksia just a couple of metres away! I didn't realise how small it would be. Tick!

After getting some chips from a local takeaway we drove up to Long Reef. Dad volunteered to stay in the car because he didn't have enough change for the parking fee, so I went out to the headland alone. Or so I thought...
Upon reaching the lookout I found a large group of people whale watching, but from the amount of people leaving it seemed as though they hadn't seen anything. I walked down the track away from the people so I would have an undisturbed view. Having never sea-watched before a lone Yellow-nosed Albatross wheeling around came as a bit of a shock. It was spectacular! I didn't want to keep Dad waiting so after ticking off Australasin Gannet, Flesh-footed Shearwater and Yellow-nosed Albatross I began to head back to the car, when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a plume of water spouting into the air and realising that it was a pod of Humpbacks! After watching them for a minute or too I headed back to Dad and we drove home.

Max.
Sydney...

P.S. Thats all my Australian Corvid species ticked off!
