I would like to second the recommendation for Nicholas Drayson's book, A Guide To The Birds of East Africa. I read it a couple of months ago, and it is quite good. Just the thing for those who like to mix birds and fiction. Of course if you like your birds non-fiction, I am sure that Birds of Victoria is a fine option.
