COMP1011 exam from 1998 session 2

This exam is quite old, and 1011 and 1711 have changed a bit since then.

1998 was Richard's first year as Lecturer-in-charge (and the year Gwen was born) so it is more useful than the 1997 exam, but still only of limited use as an indication for what you can expect in the 1711 exam this session. Nonetheless it is good exam practise to attempt it under exam conditions for your study.

Note that this was before 1011 and 1711 split - in those days 1011 was taken by all first year computing students.

In those days there was much more emphasis on unix and HTML.

Question 4: we no longer cover CGI in 1711 (the answer was C)

Question 11: we no longer cover list comprehensions in 1711 (the answer was D) (ditto Q16

Question 12: this was very poorly answered - the answer is (rot13):

Fvmr: Orpnhfr gung jbhyq znxr Ovttrfg yrff guna Fznyyrfg

Questions 17,18,19,27 relate to the unix command "grep" which was an assignment that year - so they knew it in some detail.
