Agenda

  1. Apologies and Welcome

  2. Minutes of Previous Meeting *

    CSE Education Committee 18/03 (7 July 2018)

  3. Reports from Bodies outside CSE

John Shepherd will report on any interesting/relevant devlopments that have occurred in committees, work-groups, etc. at UNSW.

  4. 4th Year Theses

The Faculty has adopted a new three-course sequence (Thesis A/B/C) for 4th year thesis. Each course is 4UC. Computer Science Honours is adopting a similar structure with three 6UC courses. The Faculty has not been overly prescriptive about what should happen in each of the thesis courses. Hui Wu wants to discuss how we should run our theses.

  5. Student Misconduct Procedures

Michael Thielscher has taken over the position of School Ethics Officer and, after almost two semesters in the job, wants to discuss the current procedures and how they might be improved.

  6. Enrolment Numbers

Enrolment numbers continue to grow. Popular courses no longer fit in any lecture theatre except Clancy. How should we arrange lectures to deal with this?

Because of the number of students looking for options, we can no longer afford to run courses with enrolments < 100.

Tutor and demonstrator costs are also blowing out due to the number of tutes and labs. Can we do without tutes in some courses, or can we make tutes larger? Can we do without labs in some courses?

  7. WEB streams

All Course Outlines for courses with a web stream need to put in a statement that it is not a Distance Education offering, and students must attend any scheduled tutorials or labs and must attend the final exam in person.

  8. UNSW3+ Readiness

Progress report on how well-prepared we are for 10-week terms.

  9. Any Other Business
