    CSE Teaching Committee 19/03 (07 June 2019)

  4. Reports from Bodies outside CSE

NS Global has a new Diploma for CS. Very similar to CE Diploma. Expect 100 extra students to enter Year 2 in 2020.

  5. New Course: COMP1010 The Art of Programming

People generally think it's a good idea. It has now been approved by the Facutly, but we have nobody to teach it in 2020 ... yet.

  6. New Faculty Courses: ENGG2000/3000 Engineering Design

ENGG2000 has been approved by the Faculty and renamed as DESN2000. We have chosen courses to be replaced to fit it into programs for 2020.

  7. Course Offerings 2020

Course schedule for 2020 are online. Offers to teach things are needed.

    • AT thinks fewer offerings of COMP6451, COMP9321 is justified
    • term planning for whole of 2020 required NOW ... ridiculously early
    • some courses need to move to different terms
    • some courses can't run because of lecturer unavailability

  8. Revising Course Details for 2020

We need to review all course pre-reqs.

  9. Lab-based Exams

    • Lab-based exams should not be multiple choice.
    • It would be good to get UNSW to pay for invigilators.
    • Need someone to assist Mei Cheng in organising

  10. Contract Cheating

    • Organised market for contract cheating.
    • Need to distinguish genuine tutoring help from contract cheating sites.
    • Often occurs when students leave assignments to last minute.
    • Requiring submissions (via Git) while assignment runs may discourage.
    • Do we over-asses, leading to panic and encouraging contract cheating?

  11. Astra and SMS

Script available to organise uploading of marks from SMS to Astra

  12. Any Other Business

    • Discussion about 4th-year thesis assessment.
    • General agreement that there's too much assessment.
    • Discussion on best way to go deferred to next meeting.
    • Likely model; all assessable items ...
      • Thesis A ... presentation week 7/8, lit review & plan in week11
      • Thesis B ... demo in week 10
      • Thesis C ... demo week 8, final thesis in week 11
