This second instalment from Cog is dynamic, spacious and intelligent. Although written and recorded around the same time as Just Visiting Part 1, Part 2 departs from the metal mindedness that Cog have so far been associated with, displaying the bands’ talents more evenly. Overall this is a softer Cog, but definitely no less intense.

While I found all the tracks to be strong, ‘The Truth and Other Lies’ is a particular standout. Featuring the eerie vocals of Carla Werner, it combines tight songwriting with adventurous instrumentation, creating an awesome sense of anticipation throughout. Similarly ‘Just Visiting’ leaves the listener pleading for more, combining atmospheric and angsty playing with a sample from The Terminator. Overall Part 2 breaks new ground, showing a much more adventurous and original Cog than Part 1. It should not only please existing fans, but also grab attention of the as-yet uninitiated. Well worth it.
