30th August

Pierre from the LRP team tests the new French goalie. The action he is testing is one where the goalie flings itself forward with its arms outstretched to save the incoming ball. This was developed after they saw the goals scored from the UNSW kick.

Somehow I think the LRP robot would like to concentrate on its training :)

Late at night, the UNSW team is still working away. Bernhard is not here because he prefers to work early. He usually gets in at 7am, several hours before Son and Darren rock up.

Kentaro (Ken), who along with Yuko was managing the team taking pictures and video for the Sony website. They were also in Stockholm for Robocup_99, and are heaps of fun to have around.

Ditto Son.

Long shot of the new setup done today. Closest to the camera is the new Legged League field, followed by the small-size field, and then the mid-size field. The simulator league played off to the left.
The Rome team is calibrating on the field in this picture.

I don't think John thought this photo was actually going to be taken :)

1st September

Alice from Rome and an LRP team member calibrate their robots on the main field prior to the quarter finals.

Team Sweden and Rome test their robots out.

28_robocup_jr.jpg

This is Robocup Jr. The robots, built with Lego Mindstorms, have light sensors, and the field has a black to white gradient so that the robot can tell whereabouts it is on the field. The ball emits infra red, which can be detected by the robots, and this is how they 'see' the ball.

31_roboroos_small_2.jpg

One of the teams in this small size match is the Roboroos (blue colours) from the University of Queensland. The Roboroos made the semi-finals of the small size league, but lost a close match.
