Aveek from UPenn sets his robot up for vision calibration

Darren sets up the robot while Son records the images for later calibration. Look closely at the screen of the laptop - on the left is a representation of what the robot sees.

The field was quite crowded on the first day - there are the UNSW, UPenn and Osaka teams using it in this picture.

Darren and Aveek share the field. Darren is taking photos of the silver colour of the robot to provide examples of it to the colour learning algorithm.

This is the mid size league. They play on an 8x4 metre field, with a full size soccer ball.

The small size league - they have a camera mounted above the field, and the robots are controlled by a central computer.

After the first half of the practice match against CMU, John and Mike (left) show Darren and Son (right) how patch changing is done.

There were lots of school kids coming to see Robocup. Here are a bunch of them watching the Osaka/Sweden round robin match.

Osaka/Tokyo round robin match. Osaka are in blue here. A giveaway is their distinctive wide-legged stance. This is most obvious on the blue robot closest to the ball.

The walks used by some teams are a bit unstable. See how the blue robot has tipped itself over. This sometimes happened when the robots stopped, and had their heads down low. The head is heavy, and this tended to tip them over.
