Competition Day One: Saturday August 4th
UNSW plays the German United team and wins 11-0! It seems that many teams have emulated the powerful UNSW walk which was an important factor in last year's impressive performance. The team stayed up to the wee hours of Sunday morning tweaking their code after the experience of today's game.
UNSW plays home team Washington on their own turf and wins 12-0! Washington is one of three new teams that are competing for the first time this year. After observing the two CMU matches so far (against Tokyo and Kyushu), it seems that they will be the team to beat this year. Due to the draw this year, UNSW could only meet CMU in the final.
UNSW plays Osaka University and wins 8-1! The goal scored against UNSW was an own goal.
So the quarter final lineup is:
UNSW plays Kyushu and wins 13-0! The team had made some major changes to vision and strategy during the day off yesterday, and it was a great relief to see that everything worked as intended. UNSW is now through to the semi-finals, where they will meet UPenn, who won their match against USTC (China) 6-2. The other semi-final will be CMU vs LRP, after CMU beat Osaka 8-1 and LRP beat Rome 5-2
UNSW plays its semi-final match against UPenn and wins 11-0! CMU won in its semi-final match against LRP 12-1, so the final tomorrow will be UNSW vs CMU. Both teams have had high scores against all their opponents, so the final will be very exciting. UNSW also won first place in the RoboCup Challenge today. Second place was UPenn, and CMU was third. RoboCup Challenge is a test of a team's soccer skills, and this year included localisation and ball-passing tests.
UNSW played CMU in the final match of the Sony Legged League, and won 9-2!
