Saturday August 26th

Things are still being set up today. The lighting guys are trying to get things just right on the practice field, but they are having lots of trouble getting the light levels they way they are supposed to be. The robots are very sensitive to changes in lighting levels, and so it is important that this is done right. Things are also being complicated by Sony's shipment of equipment being stuck at the docks in Melbourne. They've got important things like the perimeter of the field and all their spare parts in that shipment, and word is that it will not get out the docks until Monday afternoon. This is not good news.

Son, Darren and Bernhard did manage to get some calibration on the main field done later in the evening when things had settled down a bit. The combination of mercury vapor and incandescent lights in the exhibition centre is going to make things interesting. We'll know more tomorrow after the calibrations are learned.

Mike spent a bit of time today catching up with people from Robocup_99. The two American teams, CMU and Pennsylvania, are largely unchanged, and so several war stories were remembered :) We also got a chance to chat to the Roboroos, the University of Queensland small-size league team, who were also at Robocup_99.

UPDATE : Darren, Son and Bernhard finished the calibration work at 3am this morning, and things are looking good. We are still having trouble distinguishing between the blue robot uniform and the floor tiles around the edge of the field. Hopefully this can be fixed without it causing major hassles.
