Song: Moshiach

Just Visiting Part One, Open Up (as full version), Pseudo EP, The New Normal (international release)

This song was originally recorded for the Pseudo EP and Just Visiting Part One EP (check the links for info), as a 6 and a half minute song, but for some reason was cut down to the 5 and a half minute version that appears on the EP today. The full version was released on the Open Up single.

Even though the band wrote the lyrics about Aborigines (in first person), they decided it to name it after the Jewish form of the Messiah, Moshiach. Though context would suggest there are some parallels betwixt the lyrics and the concept of "moshiach".

This song was re-recorded for an international release of The New Normal. It was first released in Australia as part of JB Hi-Fi's New Normal promo which included Real Life (radio edit), My Enemy and the US version of Moshiach. This promo was only available during April of 2005, at which point the promo became sold out.

Lyrics

I’ve been waiting and watching and it won’t be long
I’ve been living and learning and it won’t be long
I have come to my senses and it won’t be long
Brace yourself companeiro’s the road is long

I’ve been waiting and watching and it won’t be long
I’ve been living and learning and it won’t be long
I have come to my senses and it won’t be long
Brace yourself companeiro’s the road is long,
We must be strong

(the following excerpt appears only on the full length version:
from A Dee Brown book titled "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee")

In a short time a group of commissioners arrived to begin organization of a new Indian agency in the valley. One of them mentioned the advantages of schools for (Indian Chief) Joseph's people.Joseph replied that the Nez Perces did not want the white man's schools.
"Why do you not want schools"? the commissioner asked.
"They will teach us to have churches," Joseph answered.
"Do you not want churches?"
"No, we do not want churches."
"Why do you not want churches?"
"They will teach us to quarrel about God."(end excerpt)

Time has come for those to pay
I’ve been waiting and watching and it won’t be long
I’ve been living and learning and it won’t be long
I have come to my senses and it won’t be long
Brace yourself companeiro’s the road is long

Softly, I’m empty
Softly, I’m fading away
